After surviving attempts on her life while pursuing a murderer the previous autumn, investigative reporter Jess Kennard looks forward to springtime in Kentucky and her marriage to Det. Joe Schuler. Plans change drastically when Joe suffers life-threatening injuries from being forced off the road during a late winter snowstorm. The police seem to have no answers; when a body later turns up at the crash site, suspicion appears to fall on Joe, still comatose, as complicit in the death. Convinced Joe is innocent of any wrongdoing and in danger as a potential witness, Jess launches her own investigation. As her probe carries her deep into a far-reaching plot, she finds herself fighting for her own survival and Joe’s as well.
